THE FINE FIBONACCI

THE FINE FIBONACCI
This blanket is dedicated to my pops who didn’t live to see my entry into the fiber world. He did witness our purchase of our farm and approached my shift into a new chapter with his usual humor and support. My pops loved me and he loved math.
The Fibonacci sequence is a mathematical concept that owes its name to Leonardo of Pisa, known as Fibonacci (c. 1170–1250), an Italian mathematician whose contributions significantly shaped European mathematics. Fibonacci introduced the sequence to Western audiences in his seminal work, Liber Abaci (“The Book of Calculation”), published in 1202.
This blanket references this work. You don’t have to like math to love it but it won’t hurt to raise a toast to Leonardo whose work has survived and thrived for longer than most of us can truly imagine.
Grown in RI, spun in CT at Still River Mill and woven at Lilly Marsh Studios in NY. That might not be a mathematical sequence but it is a Fibershed-a concept that is likely as old as Leonardo’s concept.
